PRESIDENT TINUBU HAILS AFCFTA RECOGNITION OF NIGERIA’S CUSTOMS MODERNISATION MODEL

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the growing continental recognition of Nigeria’s Customs modernisation programme, describing the development as evidence of Nigeria’s capacity to build homegrown solutions for the wider African market.

The President also commended the selection of a subsidiary of Nigerian-owned Bergmans Security Consultant and Supplies Limited for a 20-year, multi-billion-dollar AfCFTA Customs Modernisation Project.

The project, which will be implemented through Bergmans’ subsidiary, AfriTrade CMP Limited, is expected to deploy digital and physical infrastructure aimed at improving customs processes, cargo tracking, border management and trade-data exchange across participating African countries.

Another Bergmans subsidiary, Trade Modernisation Project Limited, is implementing Nigeria’s homegrown customs modernisation programme.

President Tinubu said the development demonstrates that solutions developed and tested in Nigeria can provide a model for other African countries.

“What has been built and tested in Nigeria is now providing a model for the continent,” the President said, stressing the importance of Africans developing solutions for African opportunities.

Tinubu: Nigeria Must Help Build Africa’s Single Market
                 

According to the President, Nigeria should not merely participate in Africa’s emerging single market but should also contribute the technology and infrastructure needed to make the market effective.

He said the administration’s Nigeria First policy would continue to create opportunities for capable Nigerian businesses to compete domestically, across Africa and globally.

Tinubu commended Bergmans, AfriTrade CMP Limited, Trade Modernisation Project Limited, the Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and Nigerian professionals involved in the development of the customs modernisation programme.

AfCFTA Leadership Inspects Nigeria’s Customs Programme

The AfCFTA Secretary-General, Wamkele Mene, who was in Abuja for the agreement, also visited the headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service to inspect Nigeria’s customs modernisation programme.

The visit further highlights the growing continental interest in Nigeria’s approach to customs modernisation and its potential application within the wider African trading system.

Singer Ciara welcomes baby boy with her rapper fiancé Future

Singer Ciara has given birth to a baby boy. The Goodies hitmaker and her fiancé Future welcomed a son into the world 'very early' on Monday morning in Los Angeles, the New York Post newspaper's  Page Six  column reports. The baby is Ciara's first child, and Future's fourth. She explained: 'I went with what felt right in my soul and my gut. I didn't second guess it.' Luckily, the Body Party star also admitted her pregnancy has been 'very easy.'
