President Tinubu Launches 'Power Force' Programme to Train 5,000 Young Nigerians, Boost Smart Meter Rollout

                                             

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched Power Force, a nationwide initiative aimed at training 5,000 young Nigerians to support the accelerated deployment of smart electricity meters, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Nigeria's power sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The programme, implemented through the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, seeks to close the country's shortage of skilled meter installers while providing young Nigerians with technical skills, professional certification, and direct employment opportunities.



Programme Targets Jobs and Improved Electricity Services

According to the Presidency, the initiative is designed to:

  • Train 5,000 young Nigerians in smart meter installation.
  • Expand access to electricity metering nationwide.
  • Reduce estimated billing.
  • Improve transparency in electricity charges.
  • Strengthen revenue collection for electricity distribution companies.
  • Support long-term reforms in Nigeria's power sector.

                                    

The first phase of the programme will begin in Abuja in July 2026, before expanding across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
