ABUJA, Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is entering what he described as a "golden era" of economic recovery, attributing the country's improving economic outlook to the consistent implementation of reforms and the support of state governors.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of political, traditional and community leaders from the North-East at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President said recent economic reforms were beginning to yield positive results, laying the foundation for long-term growth, stability and national prosperity.

The delegation was led by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and included governors from the North-East, traditional rulers, ministers, lawmakers, former service chiefs and elder statesmen.

Tinubu Says Economic Reforms Are Delivering Results

President Tinubu maintained that his administration's bold economic policies have stabilized key sectors of the economy and positioned Nigeria on a path toward sustainable growth.

"The economy is already stabilised. The golden era is here now," the President said, while thanking governors for supporting difficult but necessary reforms.

According to him, the reforms are designed to create a stronger economy where Nigerians can enjoy improved social welfare, greater economic opportunities and the full benefits of democracy.

The President urged governors to intensify efforts in implementing people-centred policies that will consolidate the gains already recorded.

"Nigerians are not asking for too much; they want stability, improved welfare and shared prosperity. We must continue working together to deliver these expectations."

Calls for Unity Against Terrorism and Banditry

Beyond the economy, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of national unity in confronting insecurity across the North-East.

He commended leaders in the region for their cooperation with the Federal Government in the fight against terrorism and banditry, stressing that collaboration between federal and state governments remains critical to restoring lasting peace.

"We work together, we think together, and we face the challenges together as one united country," the President stated.

He also encouraged stakeholders to continue promoting socio-economic development alongside ongoing security operations.

Pension Reforms Highlighted

The President used the opportunity to reassure pensioners that his administration remains committed to resolving long-standing pension challenges inherited from previous governments.

He said efforts were ongoing to clear outstanding pension obligations and improve the welfare of retirees.

"I am clearing the pensions now and correcting the backlog that was created," Tinubu told the delegation.

He further expressed confidence that Nigeria's democratic institutions would continue to strengthen despite political and economic challenges.

North-East Leaders Reaffirm Support

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Governor Babagana Zulum thanked President Tinubu for renominating Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Zulum pledged the region's continued support for the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, promising to mobilize grassroots support for government programmes.

"We will continue to support your programmes and policies. By the grace of God, the North-East will massively support your ticket and other APC candidates in 2027," Zulum said.

The governor also praised the administration for major infrastructure projects across the region, particularly the ongoing Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Expressway, describing it as a transformative project that will improve security, transportation and economic activities in the North-East.

He further acknowledged the Federal Government's efforts in rehabilitating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and restoring stability to communities affected by insurgency.

Kingibe Commends Economic Direction

Former Vice Presidential candidate and elder statesman, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, also addressed the gathering, expressing confidence in the administration's economic direction.

Kingibe said leaders from the North-East remain committed to explaining government policies to citizens and helping them understand the long-term benefits of ongoing reforms.

"We explain the implications of government policies to our people because they trust us. We are with your administration and remain committed to ensuring these reforms succeed," he said.
