FG Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Healthcare System at 2026 Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria's healthcare sector through strategic reforms, improved infrastructure, expanded access to quality medical services, and stronger collaboration with private sector stakeholders and development partners.

Speaking at the 2026 Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA) held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, praised healthcare professionals, institutions, and award recipients for their dedication to improving healthcare delivery across the country.

Dr. Salako described healthcare practitioners as key partners in building a stronger and more resilient health system, adding that recognising excellence encourages innovation, healthy competition, and continuous quality improvement within the sector.



NHEA Celebrates Excellence in Healthcare

The annual awards ceremony brought together government officials, healthcare regulators, development partners, industry leaders, medical professionals, and healthcare organisations to celebrate achievements in Nigeria's health sector.

This year's edition, themed "Innovation, Local Manufacturing and Digital Transformation," honoured outstanding performances in several areas, including:

  • Healthcare delivery
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Biomedical technology
  • Health insurance
  • Diagnostics
  • Public health
  • Health journalism and media

Winners emerged after a rigorous process involving public nominations, voting, independent verification, industry research, and assessment by an independent jury.



Lifetime Achievement Honours

One of the major highlights of the event was the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards to distinguished healthcare leaders for their exceptional contributions to Nigeria's medical sector.

The recipients include:

  • Dr. Ladi Awosika
  • Sir Ike Onyechi
  • Emeritus Professor Samuel Chukwunonyerem Ohaegbulam

They were recognised for their outstanding contributions to medical practice, healthcare financing, pharmacy, leadership, and healthcare development in Nigeria.

Commitment to Healthcare Excellence

Chairman of the NHEA Advisory Board, Dr. Anthony Omolola, said the awards have, for more than a decade, promoted transparency, accountability, and excellence by recognising individuals and organisations making meaningful contributions to Nigeria's healthcare system despite prevailing challenges.


The event concluded with awards presented across more than 30 competitive categories, highlighting innovation, leadership, and excellence in healthcare service delivery.
