FG Dismisses False Report of Attack on Federal Government Girls' College, Monguno

Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has debunked reports alleging that the Federal Government Girls' College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked, describing the claims as false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents, guardians and the public.

In a press statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on July 20, 2026, the Ministry assured Nigerians that the school remains safe and fully operational, with all students and staff secure.

School Safe, Academic Activities Continue

According to the Ministry, there was no attack on FGGC, Monguno, contrary to reports circulating on some media and social media platforms.

The Ministry confirmed that:

  • All students and staff are safe and accounted for.
  • Boarding facilities remain secure.
  • Teaching and learning activities are continuing without disruption.
  • The school is operating in a peaceful and secure environment.

   

Minister Reassures Parents

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority.

He stated that FGGC, Monguno operates under robust security measures designed to protect students, teachers and school infrastructure.

The Minister urged parents and guardians to remain calm, assuring them that the Federal Government continues to work closely with security agencies to maintain a safe learning environment across federal unity schools.

Clarification on the Reported Incident

The Ministry explained that the individuals involved in the incident being linked to the school were not students of FGGC, Monguno.

According to the statement, they were remedial students outside the college, and the Borno State Government is already taking appropriate measures to ensure their safety and welfare.

Call for Responsible Reporting

The Ministry appealed to journalists, bloggers and social media users to verify information through official government channels before publishing stories that could cause public anxiety.

It also urged members of the public to disregard the false report, emphasizing that the safety of students remains a top government priority.
