Tems Joins Michelle Obama to Inspire Young Creatives in Chicago
Chicago, USA – Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, joined former United States First Lady Michelle Obama at the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago, where they engaged with aspiring young artists during the inauguration of the Centre's new Media Suite.
The event formed part of the Centre's grand opening activities held from June 18 to 21, 2026, at Jackson Park. The newly launched creative hub is designed to equip young people with access to music production studios, podcasting facilities, digital media resources, and creative development programmes aimed at nurturing the next generation of storytellers, musicians, and content creators.
Sharing moments from the event on her official X account, Michelle Obama described the Media Suite as a space envisioned by herself and former U.S. President Barack Obama to empower young people to find their voices, sharpen their creative talents, and produce meaningful work that reflects their unique perspectives.
According to Michelle Obama, her interaction with Tems and the young creatives represented the very purpose of the initiative—creating opportunities for emerging talents to learn, collaborate, and thrive in the creative industry.

Speaking during the session, Tems expressed appreciation to Michelle Obama and the Obama Presidential Centre for the invitation. The Nigerian music icon encouraged the young participants to embrace authenticity, emphasizing that remaining true to oneself is one of the most powerful tools for building confidence and achieving lasting success in the creative space.
