Iru-Victoria Island LCDA Empowers Residents Through Skills Programme

The Executive Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi, took an active role in the ongoing Adire and Batik Skill Acquisition Programme by personally demonstrating key production techniques to participants, further underscoring her administration’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment. The initiative is being implemented through a strategic partnership between the Iru-Victoria Island LCDA and Vcare for Development Foundation (VCDF), with support from Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) The interactive sessions have provided beneficiaries with valuable knowledge, practical experience, and business development insights aimed at fostering self-employment and financial independence. The training programme, designed to equip residents with practical entrepreneurial and vocational skills, has attracted a large number of participants, particularly women, who are receiving intensive hands-on instruction in the art of Adire and Batik production. The programme is coordinated through the Office of the Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon. Qudus Balogun Oladimeji. Addressing participants during the training, Hon. Alabi urged beneficiaries to remain dedicated, focused, and actively engaged throughout the programme to maximize the opportunities being offered. She emphasized the importance of acquiring sustainable skills capable of generating long-term income and improving livelihoods. The council chairman further revealed that over 100 starter packs would be distributed to successful participants upon completion of the training, enabling them to establish and grow their own Adire and Batik enterprises. The Adire and Batik Skill Acquisition Programme forms part of the council’s broader strategy to create sustainable economic opportunities and strengthen entrepreneurship across communities within Iru-Victoria Island LCDA. Reaffirming her administration’s commitment to human capital development, Hon. Alabi stated that the council would continue to implement impactful empowerment programmes aimed at promoting economic growth, reducing unemployment, and enhancing self-reliance among residents of the LCDA.
