INTENSIFYING ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE AND DESILTING OPERATIONS IN IRU-VICTORIA ISLAND LCDA
The Executive Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi, has intensified efforts to improve environmental sanitation and strengthen compliance with environmental regulations across the council area.
As part of the administration’s renewed commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment, the Chairman directed the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Adetimi Durojaiye, in collaboration with the Environmental Health Services Department headed by Sanitarian Mayowa Aminu, to enhance environmental monitoring, inspection, and enforcement activities within the LCDA.
In compliance with the directive, environmental officials recently conducted a comprehensive re-inspection exercise around the Lekki Phase 1 Bridge corridor near the AP Filling Station. The exercise was aimed at evaluating the environmental condition of the area and ensuring adherence to established sanitation standards.
Meanwhile, the council has commenced extensive desilting operations in several strategic locations to improve drainage systems and mitigate the risk of flooding. The affected areas include Maroko, Ligali Ayorinde, and Muri Okunola Street.
She urged members of the public to support the council’s environmental sustainability drive by maintaining clean surroundings and actively participating in weekly sanitation activities, particularly on Thursdays, before commencing their daily commercial activities.
The Chairman reaffirmed her administration’s determination to sustain environmental best practices and implement proactive measures that will guarantee a safer, healthier, and more aesthetically pleasing environment for residents and visitors across Iru-Victoria Island LCDA.
