76 Terrorists, Including ISWAP Commanders, Surrender as Military Intensifies North-East Offensive
Nigeria's military has recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, with 76 terrorists and their family members, including senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), surrendering to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East.
According to a military statement, the insurgents laid down their arms on June 28, 2026, following weeks of sustained air and ground offensives that severely weakened the group's operational strength.
The military said the coordinated operations disrupted ISWAP's logistics network, command structure and movement routes, forcing many fighters to abandon their camps and surrender.
Authorities revealed that the surrendered commanders are currently undergoing profiling and intelligence debriefing. Information gathered from them is expected to support ongoing military operations by helping troops identify terrorist hideouts, uncover hidden weapons, disrupt supply routes and locate other insurgent leaders still active in the region.
Military officials attributed the increasing number of surrenders to relentless operational pressure, deteriorating conditions inside terrorist camps and growing divisions within ISWAP's ranks.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive operations until terrorism is completely defeated and lasting peace is restored across Nigeria's North-East.
