Rest in Peace… One of Nigeria’s most distinguished producers and directors  Amaka Igwe  is dead at age 51. She suffered an asthmatic attack, and was immediately rushed to the hospital after initial interventions failed. She passed on before getting to the hospital. She  and her husband were in Enugu for pre-production of an Igbo series when the unfortunate incident occurred. Ibinabo Fiberesima , the President of the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria, has confirmed the news. She is survived by 3 children, her husband of 21 years  Charles Igwe,  an aged   mother, siblings and a large extended family. The respected woman was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29, 2014. . LAGOS, Nigeria – As part of its support for creativity and transformation in young individuals, Absolut Vodka is partnering with MTV to organize this year MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA). The event is scheduled to take place later in June at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, South Africa. The nominations for the awards will be revealed on 16 April 2014 with new additions like the “Transform Today Award” sponsored by Absolut Vodka. The new award is to celebrate the power of young individuals to transform the image of Africa through their creativity and vision. Others are the Lifestyle Award, the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award and Personality of the Year Award.

The 10-month old baby above has been identified as Goodness. She miraculously survived the Nyanya bomb blast which killed over 100 and injured about 124 people. Goodness is the daughter of a petty trader who sold at the motor park. She was found among dead bodies while rescue team were trying to separate the bodies. A Nigerian ‘witch-hunter’ who claims any child who cries is a ‘servant of Satan’ could be banned from the UK following calls to Home Secretary Theresa May that she is a risk to youngsters. Campaigners are urging for Helen Ukpabio, known as ‘Lady Apostle’, to be deported and banned from returning to the UK on the grounds her preaches are harmful to the public. The born-again Christian Pentecostal preacher, who founded the controversial African Evangelical franchise Liberty Foundation Gospel Ministries in Nigeria, is thought to currently be in the UK.

Oh dear. This is not good. Two blasts at Nyanya Motor Park on the outskirts of Abuja this morning April 14th has killed several people with many injured. The blast occurred at the crowded bus station around 6.30am today during rush hour as commuters were about to board buses and taxis to go to work in central Abuja. Two buses full of people were struck. It is believed that one of the buses, which was parked overnight at the motor park, was loaded with the bomb that went off this morning. The explosion occurred in a section of Nyanya park allocated to luxury buses. An eyewitness said he saw at least 50 bodies being removed from the scene.. "This morning there was an explosion at the Nyanya Motor Park," Manzo Ezekiel of the National Emergency Management Agency said. "Rescue teams are on the ground" Now there are some really horrible photos from the ugly incident this morning. Find it after the cut. *viewer discretion advised*

Nigerian singer, Tuface Idibia now has two new properties in Lekki. With a five-bedroom duplex at Richmond Gate Estate, 2Face is one of the many prominent Nigerians who bought into the home plan of Haven Homes; a Lagos based Real Estate Company. We don’t know if that is allowed but an official of Haven Homes who pleaded anonymity said the African queen crooner is now the owner of the two massive duplexes worth over N400 million. Describing the luxury buildings, our source said it is a “five unit bedroom duplex with a gym, mini studio, two sitting rooms, terrace, among other personalised components”.

Jamaican dance hall star Adidja Azim Palmer popularly known as Vybz Kartel has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a former business associate named Clive "Lizard" Williams. Jamaica's supreme court sentenced Kartel today April 3rd after a 58-day trial, said to be the longest in the history of Jamaica's Circuit court. The musician's 3 other associates, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John were also sentenced to life in prison. The four men are accused of killing Clive after inviting him to Kartel's home to discuss two missing illegal hand guns. Though a body has never been found, the key piece of evidence that nailed Vybz was a text message that he sent from his phone which claimed 'Clive had been chopped up into so many pieces his body would never be found."
