Nigerian army says it can rescue the abducted girls 
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has condemned the impression being created by a section of the press that the military lacks the capacity to rescue the girls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok.
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja and signed by Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information.
It said it was unfortunate that the constructive engagement between the DHQ and the Coalition of Civil Society Groups on Tuesday on the ongoing efforts to rescue the girls had been distorted. Read more….
Jonathan says the kidnap of Chibok girls “will be the beginning and end of terrorism in Nigeria” 
President Goodluck Jonathan has said that with the support Nigeria was getting from the international community, the kidnap of the over 250 female students in Chibok, Borno State would be the “beginning and end of terrorism in Nigeria.”
The president also commended the United Kingdom, France, United States, and China for indicating interest to help Nigeria fight terrorism and ensure stability in the country. Read more….


Boko Haram bombs bridge linking Nigeria to Cameroon
The bombing and destruction of a small bridge linking Nigeria to Cameroon in Borno State today has caused mass destruction and confusion.
The blast occurred on the outskirts of Gamboru Ngala, site of a Monday Boko Haram attack that claimed the lives of over 300 village residents.
At least 30 people were killed during the late Thursday afternoon bombing incident, sources tell SaharaReporters. The bridge links the immigration check points of both Cameroon and Nigeria. Read more….
Vatican appeals for kidnapped Nigerian girls
The Vatican on Thursday appealed for the release of more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the Islamist group Boko Haram in Nigeria, voicing its “compassion” and “horror for the physical and spiritual suffering”.
Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi condemned the “terrorists” and said it was “the latest of the horrible acts of violence that have characterised the activity of this group in Nigeria for a long time”. Read more….
LASU students vow not to pay Fashola’s fees
The Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) on Thursday said no student of the institution would pay the increased tuition fee levied by government of Raji Fashola
The Union President, Nurudeen Yusuf, at a press briefing at the Ojuelegba campus, said that the decision was unanimously taken by the students of the university.
“The students had unanimously agreed not to pay the increased fee, as they resume a new session, next week until a reduction is made,” he said. Read more….
 Catholic Bishops declare ‘holy hour’ for abducted girls
Following the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno State by the Boko-Haram sect, the Catholic Bishops on Thursday declared what they called “holy hour” prayers and procession.
The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Anambra State, Most Rev .Paulinus Ezeokafor and his Ahiara counterpart Most Rev. Peter Okpalake said this in Awka On Thursday.

Fashola orders compulsory use of life jackets
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has ordered the compulsory use of life jacket on Lagos waterways.
Governor Fashola gave the directives on Thursday while distributing life jackets in Ebute -Ojo Jetty located in Ojo area of the state.
He said the state government took up the responsibility of providing the life jackets to avert further loss of lives in case accidents occur on its waterway.
