Though Affleck was criticized by some for referring to their marriage as "work" while accepting his best picture Oscar for Argo, we were amazed at his candor about the realities of marriage.
In a new Playboy interview, Affleck opened up even more about how he and his wife of eight years fell in love and what their relationship means to him. As constant sleuths of the secrets to a happy married life, we learned a lot from him. Here, four of Affleck's thoughts on what makes his high-profile marriage tick.
1. The One You Love Will Stick With You Through Thick and Thin
Affleck, who was recently cast as the next Batman, shared details of his rocky Hollywood career, noting how after several movie flops and a broken engagement with Jennifer Lopez, it was Garner who pushed him toward his current success. "I sunk into a morass," he said. "I thought, OK, I want to get out of this. My wife was definitely around then. Getting to know her, falling in love with her and being connected with her gave me a foundation to reach out and say, OK, I'm going to doHollywoodland; I'm going to direct Gone Baby Gone." The rest, as they say, is Oscar history.

"Over the past 10 years, she has allowed me to have a stable home life while accomplishing my professional goals."
